Hospital Occupancy

The share of a hospital's licensed or staffed beds that were filled, on average, over the period. Read it against STAFFED beds where the company discloses them: licensed capacity is a regulatory number and a bed with no nurse to cover it cannot take a patient, so occupancy against licensed beds can look comfortable while the hospital is effectively full. Unlike a hotel, near-100% is not the goal -- emergency capacity has to exist -- so the signal is the TREND and the mix of what is filling the beds, not the level.
