Segment EBITDA

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization for one business segment, as an absolute dollar figure rather than a margin. It is how diversified industrial and chemical companies show which end-market is actually earning, since a consolidated number hides a strong segment subsidizing a weak one. Two health warnings: segment EBITDA is company-defined and typically excludes corporate overhead, so the segments will not sum to the consolidated figure; and the segment boundaries themselves are management's choice and get redrawn, which quietly breaks year-over-year comparisons.
