RASM
Revenue per Available Seat Mile -- an airline's total operating revenue divided by its capacity (available seat miles), quoted in cents. Some airlines call it TRASM (total RASM). It is the headline measure of how much each seat earned, capturing how full the planes were (load factor), how much passengers paid (yield), and cargo, loyalty-program and other revenue. The gap between RASM and unit cost (CASM) is the airline's operating margin per seat mile. Compare carriers with care: shorter average flights push RASM up, and a few airlines count non-airline revenue in the total -- Delta's includes sales from its oil refinery to outside customers, which it also reports adjusted out.
