Connect Your AI (optional)
Oxford Ledge works with your preferred language model. This guide is for adding an optional AI assistant after you have an Oxford Ledge account. If you are trying to sign in, use the Sign in link on the home page.
Heads up: the “Sign up” and “Sign in” instructions below refer to the AI provider’s website (Anthropic / OpenAI / Google), not Oxford Ledge. You sign up there to obtain an API key, then paste the key into Oxford Ledge in Step 2.

Claude (Anthropic)
Best for: Financial analysis, structured reasoning

ChatGPT (OpenAI)
Best for: General knowledge, creative explanations

- Click Create new secret key
- Copy the key (starts with sk-)

STEP 2
Enter Your Key in Oxford Ledge
- 1 Click the ASK AI button in the ticker view, or press A
- 2 Select your provider from the dropdown (Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini)
- 3 Paste your API key into the key field
- 4 Click Save -- a green dot confirms the connection

Start Asking Questions
- The AI receives context about the ticker you are viewing, including key metrics and recent data
- Try the suggested questions or type your own analysis prompts
- Responses stream in real-time as the model generates them
- Your key stays in your browser -- we never see or store it on our servers
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my API key safe?

Stored only in your browser's localStorage. Never sent to Oxford Ledge servers. All API calls go directly from your browser to the AI provider -- we are never in the middle.
How much does it cost?

Typically $0.001 - $0.015 per question depending on the model. Most questions cost less than a penny. Google Gemini offers a generous free tier with no credit card required.
Can I switch between providers?

Yes. Your keys are saved separately for each provider. Switch anytime from the provider dropdown in the Ask AI panel -- your keys are remembered.
What data does the AI see?

The current ticker's price, key metrics, financial statements, and anomaly flags. It does not see your portfolio, watchlist, or any personal information.
Can I use this without an API key?

The suggested questions are always visible and useful for research ideas even without a key. AI-generated responses require a valid API key from any of the three supported providers.
