Oxford Ledge works with your preferred language model. This guide is for adding an optional AI assistant after you have an Oxford Ledge account. If you are trying to sign in, use the Sign in link on the home page.

Heads up: the “Sign up” and “Sign in” instructions below refer to the AI provider’s website (Anthropic / OpenAI / Google), not Oxford Ledge. You sign up there to obtain an API key, then paste the key into Oxford Ledge in Step 2.

AI-generated responses may contain errors, hallucinations, or outdated information. Always verify AI outputs independently and consult a licensed financial professional before making investment decisions.

1 Click the ASK AI button in the ticker view, or press A
2 Select your provider from the dropdown (Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini)
3 Paste your API key into the key field
4 Click Save -- a green dot confirms the connection

Start Asking Questions

The AI receives context about the ticker you are viewing, including key metrics and recent data
Try the suggested questions or type your own analysis prompts
Responses stream in real-time as the model generates them
When you are signed in, your key is stored encrypted on Oxford Ledge and used server-side to call your provider on your behalf -- the answer is relayed to you. Remove it from the Ask AI panel at any time; deleting your account purges it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my API key safe? +

When you are signed in, the key is sent once over HTTPS to Oxford Ledge, encrypted at rest with a server-held key (Fernet symmetric encryption; a key is never stored unencrypted -- if encryption is unavailable the save is refused), and decrypted only for the moment Oxford Ledge calls your provider on your behalf -- your questions and the provider's answers are relayed through our server, so we are in the middle of that call. It is never shown again, never shared, and never used for anything except your own Ask AI requests. Remove it with the key control in the Ask AI panel (it is deleted immediately) or by deleting your account (it is purged with everything else). If you are signed out, the key is kept only in your browser's localStorage with a 7-day expiry and Claude / ChatGPT calls go straight from your browser to the provider; Gemini is always routed through our server because its API would otherwise expose the key in the URL.

How much does it cost? +

Typically $0.001 - $0.05 per question depending on the model. Typically a fraction of a cent to ~3 cents per question: Oxford Ledge calls GPT-5 mini (under a cent), Gemini Flash (~a cent, and its free tier covers typical use), or Claude Sonnet (~1–3 cents) with your key, depending on which provider you connect. Google Gemini offers a generous free tier with no credit card required.

Can I switch between providers? +

Yes. Your keys are saved separately for each provider. Switch anytime from the provider dropdown in the Ask AI panel -- your keys are remembered.

What data does the AI see? +

The current ticker's price, key metrics, financial statements, and anomaly flags. It does not see your portfolio, watchlist, or any personal information.

Can I use this without an API key? +

The suggested questions are always visible and useful for research ideas even without a key. AI-generated responses require a valid API key from any of the three supported providers.
